The Zambezi river with the Zambian hills in the background

1997 Ultimate African Tiger Fishing Safari
AWOKEN FROM A DREAM

- day 9 -

We rose early and after a quick bite to eat we loaded our gear into the transfer boat and headed up river to Chirundu. As the hippo and crocodiles watched from their partially submerged vantage points we bid farewell to the river.

Over the last eight days we had all hooked into some big tiger and felt the adrenaline rush of an incredible fight. We relished getting these fierce predatory fish into the boat and with even greater satisfaction we released them to fight again. Although we gained strength from the solitude and peace of the Zambezi we were leaving part of ourselves behind.

From Chirundu we made our way by road back to Kariba stopping briefly at the tsetse fly check point so the attendant could spray our vehicle with insecticide.

Soon we were airborne, piercing southward through the African sky. As I stared out the plane’s window down at the wild and beautiful land which is Zimbabwe a small voice called me back. A small voice which calls me to return each year for another Ultimate Africa Fishing Safari.
