Namibia Visit: Windhoek, Namib Desert / Sossusvlei, Swakopmund, Skeleton Coast, Damaraland, Etosha, and Okonjima Highlights: all inclusive, top guides in remote and exclusive wilderness and wildlife areas, permanent tented camps and lodges, day and night wildlife viewing from open sided 4x4 vehicles, professionally guided hikes and walks, excellent wildlife and birding This 12 day fully accommodated safari provides a fantastic insight into the stunning landscapes and atmosphere of this remarkable land of barren deserts, rugged mountains and spectacular wildlife. Group size is limited to eight guests and nights are spent at comfortable tented camps, lodges and hotels. There is no camping on this safari. Full itinerary and trip details below: DAYS 1, 2 SOSSUSVLEI The safari begins early in Windhoek as the group departs by road to Kulala Tented Camp. Situated on a 21,000 hectare private concession bordering the Namib Naukluft Park, Kulala Desert Lodge offers magnificent views of the Sossusvlei dunes as well as spectacular mountain scenery. Guests are accommodated in 6 Meru style tented rooms en suite facilities. They are set on wooden platforms to provide maximum cooling. The main lodge has a lounge, dining area and pub. Activities here include drives to the dunes at Sossusvlei, day and night wildlife viewing from 4x4 vehicles, and walks to explore the incredible scenery and desert wildlife. Guests on some safaris may be accommodated at Sossusvlei Wilderness Camp. On day 2 the group will awake very early and travel north along the Tsauchab River bed to the towering dunes surrounding Sossusvlei. At Sossusvlei the Tsauchab River is swallowed by a sea of orange dunes, some as high as three hundred meters. This early morning drive into the vlei allows one to experience and photograph the morning light on the dunes. An optional sunrise hot air balloon safari over the dunes can be arranged at extra cost (please book in advance). In the afternoon enjoy taking in the desert scenery and its unique fauna and flora on a drive. Optional activities include morning and afternoon horseback safaris and eco-quad bike excursions. SOSSUSVLEI, Kulala Tented Camp, all inclusive DAY 3 SWAKOPMUND Leaving the Namib Naukluft after breakfast, the group travels north west via the Kuiseb Canyon to Swakopmund, enjoying a packed lunch en route. The scenery changes from sand dunes, to dark craggy canyons and then to the flat gravel plains inland from Swakopmund. En route, enjoy stops to take in the Moon Landscape and the Welwitschia plants.The group will reach Swakopmund this afternoon and stay at the Hansa Hotel for the night. SWAKOPMUND, Hansa Hotel, all inclusive excepting restaurant meals which are for your own account DAYS 4, 5 SKELETON COAST / DAMARALAND From Swakopmund guests travel north up the infamous Skeleton Coast, named after the numerous casualties claimed by the treacherous shores over the years. En route stop at the Cape Cross seal colony, home to thousands of breeding Cape fur seals. Continuing the journey up the coast, past the few remaining shipwreck sites, you will cross the windswept gravel plains with an icy green Atlantic Ocean on one side, and the endless desert on the other. Leaving the coast behind the group will travel inland to Damaraland Camp, arriving in time for an afternoon walk on day 4. The highlight for this area is the rugged desert scenery and the isolation. If you are lucky you may be able to track desert elephant and rhino across the rough terrain. Accommodation consists of permanently erected luxury tents with en suite facilities. Activities include drives and walks. DAMARALAND, Damaraland Camp, all inclusive DAYS 6, 7 CENTRAL ETOSHA / ONGAVA From Damaraland the journey continues by road to Twyfelfontein and the rock engravings before heading on to Ongava Tented Camp, located within the Ongava Game Reserve on Etosha's southern boundary. Etosha, covering an area of 22,000 square kilometers, offers excellent game viewing opportunities. Activities will be focussed within Etosha in the mornings. During the afternoons and evenings you may enjoy professionally guided walks, sitting at hides, and night drives within the Ongava Reserve - activities not possible within Etosha. The Ongava Reserve is home to both black and white rhino (tracking rhino on foot is a highlight), elephant, lion, springbok, gemsbok, hartebeest, leopard, cheetah and many more species. Accommodations each night are in comfortable, large walk in tents with en-suite facilities.CENTRAL ETOSHA / ONGAVA, Ongava Tented Camp, all inclusive DAYS 8, 9 EASTERN ETOSHA Today the group will travel east through Etosha toward Fort Namutoni gate and Mushara Lodge where you will spend the next two nights. En route, stop at the numerous perennial springs found along the edge of the pan looking for lion, leopard, elephant and black rhino as well as all the plains game of the park. Mushara Lodge is located on the eastern boundary of Etosha National Park, offering a completely different experience than that of Ongava. Among the animals to be seen in this section of the park are Damara Dik-Dik and Blackfaced Impala. You will be accommodated in luxury bungalows with air-conditioning and en suite facilities. EASTERN ETOSHA, Mushara Lodge, all inclusive DAYS 10, 11 OKONJIMA The group then travels south via Tsumeb, Otavi and Otjiwarongo to Okonjima Guest Farm, situated in the Omboroko Mountains which make up the western reaches of the Waterberg formation. Okonjima is a privately owned nature sanctuary which is owned and operated by the Hanssen family. It is an excellent finish to the safari. Activities here center around bird watching, walks and learning about the AFRICATS project that they have started. For the keen photographer there are excellent opportunities to photograph cheetah and leopard, as well as several other species. You will overnight in comfortable bungalows with en suite facilities. OKONJIMA, Okonjima Guest Farm, all inclusive DAY 12 WINDHOEK Time permitting, the group will enjoy a Bushman Trail or walk in the morning before brunch. You will depart Okonjima and return to Windhoek near 3:00 PM where the safari ends. Inclusive of brunch only

When to travel: Anytime Departures: This safari departs on Sundays throughout the year. Guaranteed departure with a minimum of 2 passengers. January 4 to January 15, 2004 Accommodations: Accommodation is in permanent tented camps, lodges, and cozy hotels. There is no camping. Beds and linen are supplied and the camp / lodge staff take care of all chores. All meals are prepared for you by camp or lodge staff. All accommodations have en suite facilities with shower and toilet. Vehicles are 4 wheel drive Land Rover Tdi 130's or Nissan 4 x 4's custom designed to seat 8 guests. Age limits: The minimum age on this safari is 12. The maximum age limit is 70 however this can be waived in some cases. Group size: The maximum group size is 8 guests. Guides: You will enjoy some of Africas most remote wilderness areas in the company of Africas top professional and learner guides. You will be accompanied by a guide throughout the safari. Luggage: As small aircraft are used for several of the transfers between lodges and camps baggage is strictly limited to 12 kilograms (26 pounds) packed in one soft sided bag per person.
