ULTIMATE AFRICA SAFARIS
Wildebeest Migration
Update! Late 1997 until March 1998 saw seemingly endless rains otherwise known as "El Nino." Havoc reined through out northern Tanzania with countless broken bridges, stuck vehicles, thunderstorms etc. Our careful and experienced guides steered the clients through the mess in style at the same time providing some of the greatest wildlife viewing ever. Typically June is quite dry but there has been a good amount of June rain. Researchers have very-finely drawn charts showing "The Migration Pattern" and during this time most of the animals should be nearing the Masai Mara. However the wildebeest are still dotting the Serengeti plains - especially the central zones between the Naabi Gate and Masai Kopjes. With long grass still dominating better parts of the vast Serengeti, we are quite certain that these animals are not going to leave anytime soon. They might even fail to go to Mara this year! The road from Makuyuni to Mto Wa Mbu is being fixed and within a few months the current ills of this section will be only a memory. We foresee a time when going from Arusha to Ngorongoro will only take three hours with an additional two hours to the Serengeti. On one recent safari we came across an active pride of lion. One lioness came very close to a vehicle in an effort to get a better take-off position for the prey in question. Suddenly another lionesses jumped onto of the bonnet! Her eyes fixed on the guide's eyes behind the steering wheel. Excitement turned into fear and all the client's were scared. The lioness soon returned to the ground. Another day in Africa! Back to The Wildebeest Migration Made Simple Links to other pages: ULTIMATE AFRICA
