Ultimate Africa Safaris

"I followed it for days.
Under the scorching sun,
trembling over cracked earth, past unforgiving thorns.

It has now stopped.
I have entered it's domain..
I am so close I hear it breathe.
I am mesmerized.
My instinct is to
conquer the moment.
My desire is to own it.
I need others, far away,

to feel what I feel,
to see what I see."

Survivor 3 - Africa
Survivor Africa News

Survivor Crew Attacked, July 3 2001

It didn't take long for Kenyan bandits to target Survivor 3. A gang of about 10 armed guerrillas reportedly ambushed a truck that was traveling from the show's production camp to Isiolo, a town outside the Shaba National Reserve, where producers are getting ready to film Survivor 3. The truck was bringing home locals hired by Survivor producers. None of the workers was injured in the raid last week. But news of the attack was originally kept under wraps by Isiolo police, said the East African Standard newspaper.

A local official blamed the attack on a group opposed to the filming of the popular CBS show in the national park, saying the attackers planned the ambush in an effort to depict the area as insecure. After the attack, game rangers from parks near Shaba were called in to patrol the highway. The rangers have also been asked to provide armed escorts for all vehicles to and from the park.

CBS officials pooh-poohed any damaging publicity stemming from the incident. "This appears to be another exaggerated or inaccurate report," CBS spokesman Chris Ender said of the ambush. "Our security has no knowledge of the event other than the published report."

The ambush last Tuesday came just days after CBS security detained some Kenyan journalists who were traveling with a group of local officials concerned that the "Survivor 3" crew was damaging the park's fragile ecosystem.

A game ranger told the journalists that he had "strict instructions from the movie company to exclude journalists from touring the park."
