Kenyan Officials Accused of Interfering, July 18 2001 Two Kenyan members of parliament have been accused of interfering with the management of the Isiolo County Council after it received 70 million Kenyan Shillings (US $890,000) from CBS to film the Survivor III series in Kenya's Shaba Reserve. Twelve councilors led by their chairman, Mr. Hussein Ali Abduba, claimed that the MPs developed an interest in the council's affairs after the filming started. Abduba claimed the MPs want to oust him as chairman so that they can have access to the money. Abduba said he had resisted attempts by the two MPs to influence him in running of the council throughout his three and half year tenure. "The MPs want to oversee the financial management of the council. They now want to sponsor a candidate against me" Abduba said.
