Every part of our trip was handled extremely well. We had high expectations and every one was exceeded. What ever apprehensions we may have had were quickly gone when we landed and were met in Tanzania. Although we had never been to Africa, we were treated like old friends returning home. It has been difficult to settle back into reality after returning from my second safari arranged by you. Ian, his staff and the arrangements were flawless and perfectly scheduled. Thank you so much for your help and your patience! I arrived early for the safari and had an extra day at Victoria Falls. The staff could not have been more gracious or the lodge and surroundings more beautiful. I had wanted to take a microlight flight over Vic Falls but the weather prevented that so instead I took the helicopter flight which also goes around the Falls but includes a roller coaster ride down into the Zambezi gorge. It was as if we were riding the rapids in a copter - highly recommended! I then met the group of seven that I would be traveling with on my scheduled safari. It was a very congenial group most of whom had never been to Africa before. We were extremely lucky in the guide who accompanied us - Lee Whittam. This was my fourth safari overall and he was unquestionably the best guide I have ever had. Not only did he have an answer for every question, he frequently anticipated the question. He could call birds to the Land Rover and stare down an elephant when we were walking. His knowledge was only equaled by his consideration for the people on the group. After asking our particular interests', Lee was able to find at least one highlight for everyone. Mine was wild dogs; Lee tracked them practically from the front of the lodge and we followed them off and on for almost 2 hours. Lee's thoughtfulness was not limited to the wildlife as he shared his skill with the camera as well. This was my first safari with the same guide for the entire trip and I was truly spoiled by Lee himself and with having a guide who can continuously build on our knowledge of the wildlife and the environment. Usually when you travel from camp to camp, the guides are based at the particular camp which has its advantages as they know the area very well. But I found that the fact that the basics were not being explained at each camp every time we saw our first elephant or lion was of far more value to me as Lee was able to deepen my knowledge and understanding of the animals and the geology. In addition I have special dietary needs and Lee was able, in a very unobtrusive way, to remind the managers and staff in the various camps of this issue sparing me the necessity and the inevitable questions that arise. I truly appreciated his help with this matter. After sadly leaving my safari group, I then went to Capetown and stayed at the Cape Grace Hotel. While it was a culture shock to be in a large city 24 hours after being on the pans of the Kalahari, it was definitely worth the adjustment. Capetown is absolutely stunningly beautiful, immaculately clean and incredibly friendly. The hotel is gorgeous and well run and has an amazing location close to the ferry to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years (the trip there should be required for all Capetown visitors; it is emotional and beautiful) and some serious shopping. Definitely recommended. It has been rough to settle back into my real life after having Ultimate Africa arrange such an effortless 3 weeks in Africa which I am sure sounds like an oxymoron to someone who has never been to Africa! This safari was truly memorable for me! I am already planning for next safari arranged by Ian and the staff of Ultimate Africa. I have so much more to learn about Africa!

The safari was wonderful, we had a great time, and everything worked out perfect. The camps were superb and we saw a lot of wildlife, the highlights: wild dogs on two separate occasions, a leopard climbing out of a tree and then hunting a bird through the grass; another leopard eating an impala; a male lion eating the bowels out of a zebra; and two female lions playing with their six month-old cubs for several hours. Quite amazing is Botswana! All the camps and people working at them were excellent. The managers at Savute were the best. And our guide 'watch' at Khwai River was the best. We felt blessed with great weather and unbeatable animal adventures. Every night we would claim it couldn’t get any better, but the next day would bring new and different experiences. We saw lions treed by a herd of stampeding buffalo herd and the lions retrieving the baby buffalo that was trampled in the stampede. It was a sensory overload when we heard the impalas bleating as they were being chased by barking wild dogs. In the bush an elephant trumpeted and then the lion roared when the impalas ran right into the pride. We saw a newborn elephant stand for the first time, and were amazed by how the entire heard participated. The guides worked really hard to make our stay enjoyable. Also the food was gourmet and the staff very friendly. You planned a great trip.

Fantastic, we loved everything. We found Jack’s Camp to be the most unique camp experience we had. Wild-life viewing was not as extensive here of course, but we especially loved the meercats. At Chitabe Trails we again loved everything. We found the camp managers to be warm and friendly. Here we saw great wildlife and we ever saw the rare pangolin! We loved Little Vumbura, particularly the location on the island. The wildlife was fantastic – our first game drive we saw 3 cats (lion, leopard and cheetah). The service was great. Duma Tau was excellent. We loved the tents and the wildlife viewing was super – we especially loved the wild dogs. River Clubs accommodations were spectacular as where the grounds and location right on the river. The food was also the best we had anywhere, although everywhere else was very, very good. Not as much wildlife here but we did see the white rhinos! We found Ultimate Africa staff, particularly Ian, the director, to be extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Everything was extraordinarily well coordinated – amazingly so, in fact! I would absolutely book again with Ultimate Africa and will recommend it to anyone I know who wants to make a trip to Africa. Overall the experience with Ultimate Africa was excellent. Answers to all our many questions were prompt and complete. Everyone was extremely helpful and courteous. All the many details of planning such a complicated and expensive trip were handled in a way to make it as simple and stress-free as possible. We loved everywhere we stayed. The food was quite good, and they did an excellent job accommodating one of my friends that was a vegetarian.  The lodge in Zimbabwe was just incredible and like something right out of a Hemingway novel! The staff there was incredible too!  We were also spoiled with a firelight farewell complete with staff singing and dancing! At no time did we feel unsafe or uncared for. It was really just a once in a lifetime experience, and I would definitely recommend Ultimate Africa to any of my friends and family that decide to embark on a similar adventure.
