Uganda is the destination of choice for travelers looking to trek mountain gorillas. However this beautiful country suffers from ethnic conflicts and banditry. In addition to the war in the north of the country the borders with the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda have seen outbreaks of armed conflict. In February 1999 eight tourists (two Americans, four Britons, and two New Zealanders) were murdered while trekking gorillas by Hutu rebels from Rwanda.

Uganda can be visited at any time, though mountain hikes, gorilla tracking and other forest walks are more challenging during the rains, which generally peak over mid-September to November and March to May.

Due to safety concerns (war) Ultimate Africa is not entertaining new bookings to Uganda at this time.
